Following a concussion, individuals can present with dizziness, vertigo, and balance impairments. An initial presentation of dizziness is a predictor of prolonged recovery following a concussion. However, post-concussion dizziness can present as a clinical challenge, as there are multiple causes of dizziness, and management is dependent on the cause(s). Dizziness due to vestibular dysfunction can contribute to poor sensorimotor integration, impairing balance, postural instability, and the ability to return to work, school, and play. As vestibular dysfunction can be of peripheral and/or central origin, post-traumatic dizziness has a heterogeneous presentation. As such, the vestibular assessment is a crucial component of the concussion evaluation to discern whether the patient’s dizziness stems from a vestibular dysfunction.
